Welcome Letter

Dear Colleague:

I look forward to welcoming you to Solutions Summit XXI, “Endless Boundaries & New Frontiers: Lead from Where You Are”, and to beautiful Fort Lauderdale. Uncertainty continues to prevail today in the world of medicine, with the failure of several efforts to repeal and replace the entire Affordable Care Act, the successful repeal of the Individual Mandate through the passage of the Tax Cuts and Job Act, and potential industry changing mergers like the one between CVS and Aetna. The conservatives have not given up hope of repealing and replacing the ACA, but the midterm elections might see that hope diminish if there is a shift in power. However, uncertainty only emboldens us to lead from where we are.

This year’s Solutions Summit features several distinguished speakers leading both general sessions and breakout sessions focusing on Leadership, Practice Management, and Reimbursement/Regulatory issues. We are delighted to have US Representative Andy Harris (R-MD) deliver the keynote address at this year’s Martin Gottlieb Advocacy Luncheon. Rep. Harris was EDPMA’s legislative champion successfully passing report language directing improvements to the rule that provides 3 payment floors for out-of-network emergency care and urging that the standard be tied to an unbiased charge database. And, on Wednesday morning, we will have a special focus on solutions for responding to bad payer behavior.

Based on feedback received from last year’s conference regarding the nightly receptions, Monday evening will be a “free” night allowing you more one-on-one time with colleagues and friends. We will have the opening and closing receptions that allow for networking and, of course, the refreshment breaks to visit with exhibitors.

The sessions, excellent speakers, and topics we have this year are due to the diligent work of our Conference Planning Committee. The members of the committee are industry leaders in their own right, their command of the issues we face is astonishing, and their network is vast. It is through their work we are able to bring you a well-rounded, meaningful and timely Solutions Summit. When you see Juli Forde, John Holstein and Paul Hudson please thank them for their efforts. Special thanks to Elizabeth and Paul from EDPMA, they make the job of the committee very easy. And last but not least, thanks to you, the participants, for continuing to make EDPMA’s Solutions Summit successful year after year.

I look forward to welcoming you to Fort Lauderdale.

Sincerely,

Iva Lee Clement
Chair, Conference Planning Committee
